What might the 2013 Lexus GS 450h add to the additional performance goodness delivered in the 2012 Lexus GS 350? More power and more fuel efficiency, for starters. The second-gen hybrid system boots out 338 total horsepower for a 5.6-second sprint to 60 mph. That's 32 hp more than the GS 350 and a 0.1-second improvement on the stoplight run.
Ford has officially added another model to the company's licensed reproduction steel body shells. Those looking to spin their own wrenches toward restoring a 1964 1/2, 1965 or 1966 Mustang Convertible can snap up a brand-new body from Dynacorn that uses higher-quality steel and more modern welding techniques than the originals. Even better, every last inch of the piece comes rustproofed straight from the factory. That means you can save the pennies and time you would have blown on cutting out cancer (rust and rot) and welding in new pieces and put both toward designing the perfect 289 for your build.
Scion is headed to SEMA 2011 with a total of seven concept cars tuned by some of the most creative customizers around. Cartel, Dynamic, 686, Michael Chang, Jon Sibal and Tatsu have all turned their attentions toward the automaker's lineup, and the results are as varied as the shops that built them. The newest addition to the Scion stable, the tiny iQ, looks to have received most of the attention this year around, with a total of four iQ concepts headed to the sands of Las Vegas. One of the wildest has to be the iQ Pit Boss by Cartel.
Ford Mustang owners are known for their desire to stand apart from the crowd and Ford is showing off the possibilities for various statements customers can make with their Mustang at the SEMA show. Several Mustangs will display just how customizable the iconic pony car is.
“No customer wants their Mustang to be the same as their neighbor down the street,” said Melvin Betancourt, Ford SEMA design manager. “Mustang comes equipped with a solid foundation of great design and performance, but people want to express themselves through accessories and upgrades. They can go as far as making it a track car, or using it as a style standout that’s for touring.”
The Ring Brothers have made a name for themselves around the custom build scene with their standout style. Each year when we head to SEMA, we seek out their latest work.
For the 2011 SEMA Show, they have created yet another show car, called the Producer. Based on a 1965 Mustang Fastback, the shaved and smoothed hot rod shimmers in a bright two-tone paint job.
VAN NUYS, Calif. — In the 1956 movie “Invasion of the Body Snatchers,” beings from outer space replace people with reasonable facsimiles.
The imposters are given away only by their perfection; the replicas lack the idiosyncrasies that make humans unique.
This cult classic, remade in 1978, came to mind as Jonathan Ward of Icon 4×4 explained the birthing process of new Icon replicas of the 1966 Ford Bronco, a renowned 4×4 that was also somewhat reviled for its many foibles.
“We’re looking for donor cars,” Mr. Ward said, conjuring images of space invaders combing junkyards for Bronco carcasses. “We only need the VIN number. Nothing else.”
What Mr. Ward is building is an all-new, 21st-century Bronco in the image of, and within the dimensions of, the original. The price is a little more outsize than its inspiration: $159,000 and up.
Ron Fellows has a long, distinguished racing career, including driving on the championship Corvette Racing C5.R and C6.R teams, and that resume helped earn him an induction to the National Corvette Museum’s Hall of Fame this year.
In honor of that achievement Chevrolet has rolled out this Torch Red concept car based on the latest 2012 Corvette, which it will be presenting at the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) show in Las Vegas this week.
he 2011 SEMA show is just about upon us, and accordingly, the floodgates on concepts have opened. Among the slew of cars that will be on display from Chevy, the 2012 Camaro ZL1 Carbon Concept is sure to catch some eyes.
Wearing a host of exposed-weave carbon fiber accessories, including a "Mohawk" hood insert and rear spoiler, the Carbon Concept aims to give the ZL1 a grim look to suit its fierce performance. The 580-horsepower super-muscle-car promises some serious capability in stock form, and the Carbon Concept just sharpens it up.
A concept built to show the performance side of the Sonic, the Super 4 is built with a 2″ turbo back exhaust and free flow intake system. 225/40ZR18 BFGoodrich racing tires (treadwear 40!) sit on Forgeline alloy wheels. A Brembo brake package, with two piece drilled rotors up front, slow the stripped and cage chassis down. A custom Pedders coil-over kit drops the car and ensures the tires work to their maximum. A carbon body kit round out the package.
The 2011 SEMA Show isn’t officially open yet but we’ve obtained a few snap shots of one of the two Honda‘s being kept under wraps. Called the 2012 Civic Si HFP this more hard-edged version of the new Si might just be the car enthusiasts were hoping for.
