Santa Fe Auto Sound was founded in 1967. At the time it was known as Mid-Town Auto Sound. The company had two operations, one for retail and one for wholesale. The wholesale operation covered four states, and distributed car stereo. It was located at 54th and Troost in Kansas City, between UMKC and Rockhurst University. When Mid-Town Auto Sound opened, it was the only Car Stereo retailer in Kansas City. The company was run on principals of good service and being experts in their field from the beginning. In 1977, Santa Fe Auto Sound was opened in Overland Park and the company had two retail locations. In 1982 we closed Mid-Town Auto Sound, due to the fact that most of our customers were coming to Overland Park. In 1984, Mark and Vicky Scrivner purchased the company from Vicky's parents, who were the original owners. In the late 1970's and 1980's, the company changed and grew with the times. In 1985, in a national contest, one of our customers won the Alpine Lamborghini. He had to write in twenty-five words or less what the "Alpine Touch" meant to him. It was judged by a panel of experts from Columbia University. In his answer, he compared the "Alpine Touch" to food. On November 17th, 1985, the Alpine Lamborghini was awarded to him at our store. All the management team from Alpine came along with the local news media. It was quite a day, even though it was 17 degrees. In 2000, Santa Fe Auto Sound was remodeled. It was done in a "Santa Fe" Southwest theme. The demonstration areas featured state of the art technology to show off the many features of todays car electronics. The installation area was expanded to include four installation bays. As we move forward, Santa Fe Auto Sound will continue to bring our customers the latest technology. We are watching automotive technology expand through the internet and the office in the car. If we couple this with improvements in audio, security, and video, it should be a very exciting future for our customers.
